UPDATE:

A newer version of QuickACCESS has been posted (1.5 or higher). After it is open, navigate to System Tray Icon > Calibration Extras > Launch QuickACCESS on Windows Start, and make sure it is checked. Then when the computer is restarted, QuickACCESS should launch automatically.

For olders versions of QuickACCESS:

Since QuickACCESS version 1.4 and above need to run with elevated permissions, there are steps that must be taken to make Windows 8 start it upon login. Placing a shortcut in the Startup folder location will start QuickACCESS 1.3 and below, which is located at

%AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Making it start automatically will be made part of the installation process in a near future update.

Manual Setup for QuickACCESS 1.4 Only

Since we will automatically add this option to the installer, this only applies to QuickACCESS 1.4. You must be signed in as an Administrator in Windows 8 to complete these steps.

  1. Go to the Start screen, type regedit and hit Enter
  2. Navigate to one of the following locations running in your system:
    • (32-bit Windows 8) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • (64-bit Windows 8) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  3. In the right pane of the above options, create a new string value and call it QuickACCESS
  4. Right-click on the newly created QuickACCESS string value and select Modify
  5. Enter the path to QuickACCESS C:\Program Files\EyeTechDS\QuickACCESS\QA.exe
  6. Click OK and close Regedit
  7. When you restart your computer, QuickACCESS should start after you login
  8. In our testing, there are some errors with Windows 8 Fast Start feature which can be turned off; in other cases QuickACCESS 1.4 crashed

There is an easier way to apply this registry setting. http://office.eyetechds.com/downloads/answers/add_qa_to_windows_startup.reg (right click the link, then Save Link As) Double click the .reg after it is saved on your computer, and it will put it in the registry properly.

The above solution still didn't work on most systems. A new version will be available shortly. Basically the Windows/Current Version/Run doesn't respect working directories very well. QuickACCESS now is aware of its own current directory and changes it appropriately.

While QuickACCESS is running, click on the QuickACCESS icon in the system tray located in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then click on the "Extras" menu and a window will pop up. Check the box called "Run QuickACCESS on Windows Startup" so that QuickACCESS will run every time you start the computer. If for some reason the "Run QuickACCESS on Windows Startup" check box is grayed out then run right click on the QuickACCESS icon and click on properties and click on the "Run as Administrator" box.
