I have a TM3 camera that I started using with a Sahara Tablet i500 series tablet. It has a VIA chipset firewire, and tends to randomly disconnect, and won't reconnect automatically until the next reboot or hibernation of the computer. What can I do to fix it? |
I don't think there is a good solution for this setup. The VIA firewire chip is the source of the problem. That chipset seems to only work well with firewire harddrives. Firewire cameras, such as the TM3, always are flaky with the VIA chip firewire cards. If there was a way to use a USB-3 to firewire adapter or a PCI Express card with the Tablet Kiosk brand tablet, then you could get it to work with a Texas Instruments firewire card. As far as I could tell from looking at the photos of the product, I didn't see access to the PCI-e port. Here is an example card: http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/FireWire/2-Port-ExpressCard-IEEE-1394-Firewire-Card~EC13942 Note under
it says: Texas Instruments On a related note, when buying a new computer to work with a TM3, buy one that has a 6 pin firewire port (aka IEEE 1394 card) made by someone besides VIA, like TI (Texas Instruments). Then you should be golden. Hope that helps. |
